Storm Damage to Your Roof? What to Do After a Storm in East Tennessee
East Tennessee gets its share of severe weather — high winds, hail, and the heavy storms that roll through every spring and summer. After a big one, your roof can take damage that's hard to see from the ground but leads to leaks down the road. Here's exactly what to do.
1. Stay safe and check from the ground
Don't climb up on a wet or damaged roof. From the yard, look for missing or lifted shingles, dented gutters and downspouts, and shingle granules washed into the driveway. Inside, check ceilings and the attic for new water stains.
2. Document everything
Take photos and note the date of the storm. Insurance companies want evidence, and clear pictures of the damage right after the storm make your claim much stronger. If shingles or debris landed in the yard, photograph those too.
3. Get a professional inspection
A lot of storm damage — especially hail bruising — is easy to miss for an untrained eye but obvious to a roofer. A free inspection tells you whether you have real damage worth filing for, before you ever call your insurance company.
4. File your claim on time
Most policies give you a limited window to file after a storm. Don't sit on it. Once you know you have damage, contact your insurer and start the claim. We can meet your adjuster on-site and make sure nothing gets overlooked.
5. Choose a local contractor — not a storm chaser
After big storms, out-of-town crews show up, do quick work, and disappear. If there's a problem later, they're long gone. Crockett Construction is right here in Athens, family-owned, and we stand behind every roof we install. We'll still be here years from now.
